Asking a loan from banks to help grow your small business or even to start one up is in many ways like having your tooth pulled out without anesthesia: painful. Especially because the economy is unstable. One good piece of advice though: if it's really important that you get a loan from a bank for your small business, go to your nearest community bank instead of commercial banks. Why? Because community banks put a premium on relationship banking so they support local small businesses.
